UNICEF Rights Respecting Award

This year, each class decided and agreed on which Rights they felt were most important to them and their classroom environment. Each class was tasked with the idea to create their own class charter. The charter helped everyone to understand the role they play in upholding children Rights and the Rights of those around us. It also, highlighted the responsibility everyone holds to ensure that Rights are enjoyed and accessed freely.

We are delighted to announce that Greenvale school has achieved the UNICEF Rights respecting school Silver award!

Achieving Silver rights committed means that there is evidence that:

  •   Greenvale school has introduced the RRSA Three Strands into our school community.
  •   Greenvale school’s senior leadership team (SLT) understands what is involved in the Award and is committed to embarking on the UNICEF UK Rights Respecting journey.
  •   Greenvale school has ensured the right foundations are in place for our schools journey to the second stage of the award, Gold: Rights Aware.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The rights respecting school award puts children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK and ensure rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate, and fulfil their potential.

Next, we begin our work towards the gold: Rights aware. This includes Greenvale school explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture. Rights Aware means there is evidence that:

  •   Greenvale school will promote knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout the school community.
  •   Greenvale school will be putting into action and developing the plans outlined on our Action Plan for Gold.
  •   Greenvale school will begin to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment.
  •   Children and young people at Greenvale school are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.
